Property Reassessments to Be Mailed Out Earlier
Due to the extra effort put in by Legislator Craig Johnson, Port Washington and Manhasset residents will be having their property reassessments mailed out 20 days earlier, on Aug. 9 rather than on Aug. 29. This gives residents more time to ask questions or get their own appraisals.
Parking in Port
At about 8 a.m. every weekday morning, Port drivers, in what resembles a localized Grand Prix, converge on the commuter lots in the hope of getting one of the last remaining parking spaces. Anyone shut out of a parking space at Port's commuter lots knows the feeling of despair and the hope that, someday things will get better. What the shut-out commuter may not realize is that the parking administrative function involves far more than the approximately 800 spaces which facilitate Port's Dashing Dans' journey to Manhattan.
Date Set for Greatest Bluefish Tournament 2002
The 20th Annual WICC American Ladders & Scaffolds Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth takes place Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, on the Long Island Sound. Sept. 14-15 has been delegated as the alternate weekend in case the tournament needs to be rescheduled due to natural disaster (e.g., hurricane). The tournament offers over $45,000 in cash and attracts more than 5,000 registered anglers from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and as far away as Florida and Texas for this one-of-a-kind tournament.
On The Bay
The third race in the CBCA Fall Series took place last Thursday evening, August 1. The Fall Series? With temperatures hitting almost 100 degrees and the humidity just about insufferable, one has to wonder about the sailors who named the series that is currently taking place each Thursday evening. Maybe they were hoping that if they named the series the Fall Series, the wind gods would become confused and send cool autumn breezes to Manhasset Bay.
