Dr. Bruce A. Sims of Sands Point will be appearing as Nathan Lane's best man in the season finale of HBO's Sex and the City. The show is set to air in September.

As reported in Newsday, The New York Times and other area papers, Sex and the City created a local buzz by announcing it would be looking for extras at Kitchen Kabaret in East Hills. On July 12, Bruce, along with over 500 local hopefuls, was photographed and interviewed by Amerifilm, the company that casts extras for Sex and the City, The Sopranos and other television programs and feature films.

A few days later Bruce received the good news that he would be an extra at a Hampton's Gastby style wedding. On Thursday, July 18, Bruce appeared at the Old Westbury Gardens, the shooting location. The casting director immediately chose Bruce to play best man to Broadway legend, Nathan Lane.

For two days, filming began in the late afternoon, continued through the night and ended at dawn the next day. During the filming, Bruce had the opportunity to meet Sarah Jessica Parker and the other Sex and the City stars, in addition to Nathan Lane. "I never realized before that to get a few minutes of film footage required so many retakes and hours of detail oriented adjustments in our positions and to the lighting. I stood next to Nathan Lane for close to two hours for a scene that was only several minutes long. I'm amazed that with the long and grueling hours, the actors still manage to look wonderful and well rested. Even if I never make it past the editing process, it was a lot of fun and I would do it again."

While Bruce has no intention of giving up his dental practice of nearly 20 years, Bruce has already been contacted about appearing in other HBO productions.

Bruce has a dental practice in Forest Hills, specializing in general and cosmetic dentistry. He is married to Trusts and Estates attorney Lisa Bochner Sims, and has two children, Jeffrey and Brian, who attend Manorhaven Elementary School where he has supported the school's auctions by donating his cosmetic services.
