Crews from Ports Far and Near Race in the "Cablevision Around Long Island Regatta"
Teams of sailing crews are readying their boats for the 26th Annual "Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR), sponsored by Cablevision Systems Corporation for a sixth consecutive year. The event, hosted by the Sea Cliff Yacht Club, will begin approximately one mile off shore of Rockaway Point on Thursday, July 25, at 1 p.m. and will finish off the Glen Cove Breakwater near the Yacht Club. Over 100 sailing crews will compete for the coveted Cablevision Championship Trophy.
"Thanks to Cablevision, we are anticipating another great turnout for the regatta this year," said Fred Bauerschmidt, co-chairman of the Around Long Island Regatta. "We are pleased the number of registrants is running ahead of last year. We look forward to tracking a field of competitive crews during the 190 mile race." The "Around Long Island Regatta" is open to monohull and multihull boats of at least 24 feet in overall length. Trophies for the competition will be awarded to participants in several different categories. There will be a first place trophy for teams in each sailboat division, fleet trophies, first to finish, an e-GAD Trophy, the Jack Sussey Academy Trophy, Our Lady Trophy, the Wesley L. Bailey Trophy, Jack Tar Trophy, John B. Thompson Jr. Trophy and the Cablevision Championship Trophy.
All entries are due by Friday, July 19, and must be submitted on an official entry form.
