Thomas Aloysius Hanley Sr., 77, of Port Washington, died on June 4, 2002. A 1942 graduate of Regis High School in NY and later St. John's University, Mr. Hanley served in the US Army for three years during WWII. His career was predominately in the retail business, most recently as a sales representative for the John Ritzenthaler Company until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Hanley was an active member of St. Peter's Parish and the Regis High School Alumni Association. He recently organized the 60th reunion of Regis High School class at the St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset. Husband of Maureen. Father of Dorothy McGovern (Lawrence), Maureen Reedy (John), Ellen Whiteman (Brian), Thomas Jr. and John (Jennifer). Grandfather of 15. Brother of Eileen Byrne, Catherine Brethel, Elizabeth Crowley and the late Ellen Koneck. Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Funeral Chapel, Manhasset. Anthony E.Steele, 74, a 50-year resident of Port Washington, died on June 14, 2002. He was born in London, England, on Sept. 13, 1927. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie (nee Canuso); his children, Jacqueline Merkel and Russell Steele; his grandsons, Christopher, Edward and Matthew Merkel; and many friends. Anthony was predeceased by his parents Edward and Helena and his brother John. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home. Memorial Mass celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara on June 19. Contributions in his memory to the Christopher Reeve Spinal Cord Foundation or St. Francis Hospital would be greatly appreciated. A good friend, a great dad, a better husband, he will be missed by all.
