Patrons and employees at the Soundview Shopping Center on Shore Road in Port Washington North were surprised by the rapid demolition of Pastabilities restaurant over the past several weeks. To learn more about this project, Port Washington News contacted the realty management company for the Soundview Shopping Center, Acadia Management Corp.

The new, "more open," look at the north end of the Soundview shoppping center.

Mr. Jon Grisham, vice-president of Acadia, explained that the demolition was part of an ongoing project to make the Center more competitive and enhance its ability to serve the residents of Port. He stated there was a compelling need to provide more parking for customers. The northeast corner of the Soundview Center now has an open line of sight for customers; Grisham is hopeful this exposure will be beneficial in achieving Acadia's goal of full occupancy of all stores. This alteration was in the planning stage for some time and much work was done before the demolition actually began. Under Grisham's direction, Acadia will continue to plan for and focus on future projects such as the discussions presently under way evaluating a possible expansion of King Kullen.

A large portion of the former site of Pastabilities and a number of parking spaces adjacent to it are now covered by a temporary chain link fence extending from Blockbusters to the Boston Chicken restaurant. Inside the fence are piles of broken concrete, uprooted trees a small earthmover and a large garbage dumpster. On a positive note, there are several pallets of neatly stacked new bricks in the fenced off area which imply the start of the reconstruction. When asked how long before this area is renovated, Grisham expressed his concern for the community and the hope that this section is completed and serviceable in approximately one month.
