The Hurricanes (boys U12) played an intense game against the Farmingdale Fusion, a team they had never beaten before. The well-played first half was dominated by defense and played mostly outside the penalty boxes on both sides. The Hurricane defense, led by sweeper Alex Stern, stopper Zach Ross, and fullbacks Drew Regan and P.J. Wezenaar, threw back several Farmingdale scoring opportunities.

The second half opened with a strong offensive push by the Hurricanes led by the unlikely duo of reserves Brian Meyers and Erik Schroeder. The end result was a short goal by P.J. Wezenaar. The last 15 minutes of the game saw Farmingdale vainly attempt to come back. Goalie Josh Scheider-Weiler made several key saves down the stretch to preserve his second shutout in as many league games.

A note to all the other coaches out there - please call or email Greg Schroeder to get your results into this column! Port's teams will be on the fields again this weekend for week six of the league schedule. A handful have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Waldbaum's and State Cups and may be in action as well. See you at the match! Logo
