The last weekend of vacation was a good one for Port's teams in the Waldbaum's and State Cup tournaments.
In Waldabum's Cup action the Xtreme (boys U10) down to only a single substitute due to vacation and illness, nevertheless defeated a good Massapequa team 4-1. The Cheetahs (girls U-15) dominated their game, played on the friendly fields of Guggenheim, winning 9-2. The final game of the day was a hard-fought defensive struggle, also at Guggenheim, that ended with the Vipers (boys U12) narrowly falling 0-1. The Vipers had won their opening round game in convincing fashion. The Xtreme play their quarterfinal game at Daly at 4 p.m. April 28. Come down and cheer the team on!
In State Cup action, the Hurricanes (boys U12) dominated their game in Sachem by a 5-0 score. Sachem mounted only two serious scoring chances, both in the second half.
League games resumed this past weekend. The Xtreme wore down the Rockville Center Bulldogs and won 3-0 on second half goals by Andrew Vasquez, Ryan Elton and Liam Neville. Each week the Xtreme is developing into a more solid team. The Pride (boys U12) won for the first time this season, beating the Stony Brook Eagles 5-3. Conor Broderick scored three goals, including one only 14 seconds into the game. James Garibaldi and Jake Grabiner also scored for the Pride, Anthony Saldana made some big saves late in the game to protect the lead. The Pride's record is now 1-1-1.
Last Saturday, on a beautiful day, the first grade boys intramural teams came together for some lively, friendly competition. The Wizards battled the Revolution in a hard-fought battle in which many goals were scored. Jack McManus, Bobby Eilbacher and Dylan Neville each had three goals. Austin Kemper, Craig Llewellyn and Chris Seckovich played solid defense.
This upcoming weekend there will be a full slate of intramural, league and cup games all around town. Take in a game and cheer Port's strikers!
