A new golfing season is upon us and, as a fellow golfer and a PGA Golf Professional, I am here to inform you of one of Long Island's newest golf facilities, Harbor Links. Harbor Links consists of an 18-hole championship course, a fabulous 9-hole "executive" style course that all levels of golfers can play, a 40 stall lighted practice range, and a 18-hole lighted miniature course, which is great for children's parties.
I am one of the Golf Professionals at Harbor Links, so I am a little biased with my favoritism. Harbor Links is located in Port Washington. It is owned by the Town of North Hempstead and is an Arnold Palmer Managed golf course. It is open to the public, with tee time reservations available for both residents and nonresidents of the Town of North Hempstead. The Michael Hurdzan designed course features a style that is obvious by its title. It is a link course, which generally means, a course located near the water and consisting of more open land and less trees. Like most of the links courses in the world, such as St. Andrews in Scotland, it takes some skill to play it. Wind is usually a factor in this old sand mind that has been converted to a golf course. The 18-hole championship course is a marvel, not only with its difficulty, but its beauty as well.
The 9-hole golf course is not only a great and challenging test for any caliber of golfer, it is also a great course to learn on. It is mostly composed of par 3's but also includes some par 4's that are short, but tough. Both courses make for a challenging, but fun round of golf!
The entire Harbor Links facility is recognized as an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. This means that, though it is a golf course, the enhancement and protection of the surrounding environment is of the utmost consideration. Harbor Links adheres to one of the most stringent maintenance plans ensuring a good quality course while promoting the natural habitat.
The quality of the championship course at Harbor Links was recently recognized by the United States Golf Association which has asked us to host the 2002 USGA Public Links Regional Qualifier and the 2003 US Amateur Regional qualifier.
The Instructional program at Harbor Links is one of the best! We have some of the best Met area teachers who are all Arnold Palmer Academy Certified Instructors. We offer all types of lesson programs and clinics, whether for juniors or adults, you will find something for everyone!
