Many thanks to our county legislator, Craig Johnson, for his leadership in opposing the proposed Nassau County Income Tax. Imposition of such a tax - which as proposed could start as high as 6 percent of our incomes - would have a disastrous effect on the Nassau economy, place us at a disadvantage to Suffolk and lead to an exodus from the county. Further, in light of the number of two-income families in Port, the 1 percent tax on the so-called rich would be imposed on many Port families. Craig's leadership on the issue makes an income tax impossible in light of the current composition of the county legislature. So, thanks Craig. We urge the new county executive to implement the $100 million in budget cuts and efficiencies he ran on and was elected to implement.
