Under the direction of the Athletic Director of the Port Washington Schools, Rose Bonanno, and with the assistance of Schreiber High School students, Great Neck/Port Washington Lodge #1543 sponsored the Elks "Hoop Shoot" at Weber Middle School on Jan. 5. Three boys and three girls ages 8-13 won the first round of competition and have been named the lodge champions.

First place trophies were awarded to one boy and one girl in each of three categories: Ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Runner Up trophies were also awarded. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all the competitors.
The six champions now advance to the district finals at Valley Stream Central High School on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 9:30 a.m. where they will compete with other lodge winners throughout the area.
The Elks "Hoop Shoot," began as a local program by Corvallis, Oregon Elks in 1946, is in its 30th year of national competition. Over three million boys and girls are expected to participate this year.
