During the week of Oct. 29, the Port Vipers (boys - U12) won their second game in a row, 5-3. Ignacio Del Valle scored twice and James Hall, Harry Roberts, and Nick Balterman each added one. Rich Imperatore and Will Rizzo anchored the defense which shut down the opponents in the second half to secure the victory.
The Hurricanes (boys U-12) secured their first division championship by defeating the Hota Rebels 2-0. After a scoreless first half, David Lee scored in close early in the second half, followed soon thereafter by another close-in goal by Zach Ross. The Hurricane defense, led by Alex Stern at fullback and Josh Schneider-Weiler in goal, shut out the Rebels, allowing few opportunities. The Hurricanes include Matt Mohr, Matt Weintraub, Bruno Marques, Brian Myers, Sam Glickman on offense, Jack Nick, Pieter-John Wezenaar, Drew Regan on defense, Matt Greenblatt is the "quarterback," and David Hiller, Erik Schroeder and Spencer Irving play both offense and defense. Michael Widmer alternates time in goal with Josh.
The regular season concluded this week. One final note, as reported in Newsday, since Sept. 11, unsportsmanlike behavior in the Long Island Junior Soccer League as a whole is down by half. The Port Washington Soccer Club is proud that its teams, coaches and fans show excellent sportsmanship at all events, as recognized by numerous team awards to this effect every season.
