The first round of Nassau County Class A Tournament playoffs was held for Port Washington on Saturday, Oct. 27. Port Boy's Varsity Soccer team soundly defeated Hicksville by 4-0, with all the goals being scored in the second half.
It was a total effort where everyone contributed to the victory. Eduardo Espinoza scored two goals with assists from Kevin Davies and Virgilio Meo. Luis Rivera pleased the crowd with his unorthodox "flip" throw ins and goal scoring with an assist from Kevin Davies. The icing on the cake was the final goal by Peyton Mait, assisted by Henry Alvayero. Port's varsity team showed they are ready for the playoffs this season.
The team's success would not be happening without the good discipline in the midfield by Jeremy Francis, Carlos Ramirez and Walter Zepeda, who distributed passes brilliantly. Another strong hold was the defense of Adam Hiller, David Buttrill, Teddy Levarda and Jarred Levine. The keeper, Andrew Levy, was rock solid, refusing to give up a goal in the game for the second time this season.
Port will play Massapequa next. Roger Winter, after 34 years as head coach at Schreiber High School is hoping again for a Nassau Championship title and more!
Good luck, Port!
