As a Port Washington resident with two school-age children in the district schools, I must finally write to the Port Washington News - enough is enough!
The very public and even tawdry infighting among the members of the board of education and specifically the Messrs. Zimmerman and Sussman would never be tolerated - not worthy of public note - were they not members of our schools board. It is clear to me that these men are unfit for the jobs they were elected to fulfill. Physical violence, legal battles, name-calling? What place do these shenanigans have in the guidance of our school system? It angers me that weekly our town newspaper gives these men voice/credibility. We read letters of virulence, anger and prejudice. In short, we would never tolerate this kind of behavior from our children or our peers, much less from our elected officials.
And when we, the taxpayers, have to pay for the legal fees incurred from these juvenile dramatics, the situation has clearly gone out of control. Our budget cannot afford unnecessary expenses - and this clearly is frivolous!
I am confident that I am not the only Port resident who does not want to see this ongoing feud waged by egotists who care not for our children, continue to be played out in the Port Washington News. Let's rescind their privileges, as they are unfit to serve our schools. It is time to say goodbye to these gentlemen (?) who insist on waging personal battles at the expense of our children.
