General Council Initiative Targets Enhanced Safety Throughout PW
Most will recall with sadness the Thanksgiving Day car accident on West Shore Road that claimed the life of one fine young man, Justin Bakst, only last year. This was not the first time lives had been lost on this particular thoroughfare, but the General Council aims to make it the last. Port rushed and passed their way to an easy victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd that nearly doubled its seating capacity. In a tense and often precarious period in our country's history, the Port faithful welcomed the opportunity to break away from the solemn sights of impending war and appreciate the hometown boys in a gala event. Vince Zorskas, Ray Ross, James Sussman, Bobby Kropacek, Scott Udell and Eric Rimsky were the standouts in a game that was decided long before the halftime buzzer.
On The Bay
Last weekend, October 6-7 was a very busy weekend for sailors competing in events on local waters. Port Washington YC held their annual Volvo Leukemia Cup Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Thirsty Thursday group joined with the Leukemia Cup for their last race of the season. The Leukemia Cup will be reported elsewhere in the paper, and this column will post results from the Thirsty Thursday competition when they become available from the Race Committee.
