General Council Initiative Targets Enhanced Safety Throughout PW
Most will recall with sadness the Thanksgiving Day car accident on West Shore Road that claimed the life of one fine young man, Justin Bakst, only last year. This was not the first time lives had been lost on this particular thoroughfare, but the General Council aims to make it the last. After careful study dedicated to making this road and others throughout Port Washington, safer, the General Council of Homeowner Associations of Port Washington (GC) has recently passed resolutions calling upon the local and county police, as well as Nassau County government agencies, to implement these goals.

Port Downs Herricks, 39-7 in Historic Evening
On a cool Friday October evening, the Vikings buried Herricks, 39-7 in an historic contest that witnessed the first night home game in our town's storied football past. Port rushed and passed their way to an easy victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd that nearly doubled its seating capacity. In a tense and often precarious period in our country's history, the Port faithful welcomed the opportunity to break away from the solemn sights of impending war and appreciate the hometown boys in a gala event. Vince Zorskas, Ray Ross, James Sussman, Bobby Kropacek, Scott Udell and Eric Rimsky were the standouts in a game that was decided long before the halftime buzzer.

On The Bay
Last weekend, October 6-7 was a very busy weekend for sailors competing in events on local waters. Port Washington YC held their annual Volvo Leukemia Cup Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Thirsty Thursday group joined with the Leukemia Cup for their last race of the season. The Leukemia Cup will be reported elsewhere in the paper, and this column will post results from the Thirsty Thursday competition when they become available from the Race Committee.
