The Port Washington Soccer Club's U-14 Wildcats, coached by local trainer and coach Chris Perez, continue to win, while being good sports too.

The Wildcats, most of who have been playing together since they were five, finished their spring season undefeated in Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) play with an 8-0-1 record. The Wildcats were also the Waldbaum Cup's Minor A Challenge Champions winning four games in the Nassau County-wide tournament. As part of their busy spring season, the Wildcats also participated in the Garden State Soccer League USSSA Northeast Regional World Qualifiers in Princeton, NJ (May 26 and 27) where they gained valuable experience as part of Coach Perez' long-term plan for soccer excellence for local youth. Joining the Wildcats in New Jersey were Coach Perez' under-18 Renegades, another Port Washington team made up of local players, who qualified for the USSSA World Championship at the Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, FL Oct. 5-8.

The Renegades were big supporters of the Wildcats and turned out for Wildcat games even though they played multiple games each day of the tournament. These big and little "soccer brothers" showed the talent and enthusiasm that exists in Port Washington. The Renegades have been successful competing against elite "select" teams throughout the East Coast.

Wildcat success has carried over into the start of the fall season with the Wildcats taking the American Ref-Fuel East Meadow Tournament Winners Cup Aug. 25 and 26. This tournament win was particularly gratifying as the Wildcats had only 13 eligible players due to injuries to three team members.

All the winning hasn't come at the expense of good sportsmanship. The Wildcats finished their second consecutive season (fall and spring) as the Sportsmanship Award dinner for their LIJSL division as voted on by the referees.
