Use of Parent Survey Stalls at School Board Meeting
Despite urging from many parents and school board president Richard Sussman, a questionnaire seeking parent feedback about their children's school experience was not adopted for utilization by the Board of Education (BOE) at its Aug. 14 meeting. The survey, which took a committee at least six months to develop, was meant to be distributed annually. In general, it appeared the survey failed to gain sufficient support because of an unclear focus about the kind of information the schools wanted to gather, and the actual uses of the responses. However, it did not appear to be a rejection of the concept of having a parental survey.

The Village Club of Sands Point Is a Fait Accompli
With the opening of its Clubhouse at a gala celebration held Aug. 19, the Village Club of Sands Point celebrated the completion of an important and historic project that began in December of 1994. At that time, the Village of Sands Point became the owner of 210 beautiful Sands Point acres, formerly known as the IBM Country Club, which included a fabulous mansion, other interesting buildings, tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course and a waterfront that measures a third of a mile.

On The Bay
The highlight of the week had to be the Around the Island Race, a re-enactment of the first America's Cup competition 150 years ago, held on Tuesday, Aug, 21. With more than 205 yachts on the starting line in 20 divisions, the Race Committee was very busy for a good portion of the morning. Several local sailors were sailing in Cowes.
