At mid-morning on Saturday, July 21, the traffic on Port Blvd. was stopped and backed up because of a motor vehicle accident. According to police officials, a Port Washington Police Department police officer on motorcycle, Alan Paxton, who was assigned to be a funeral escort for the son of a former police officer, was hit by a 33-year-old woman from Manhasset.
Reportedly, Officer Paxton was in the right lane heading south on Port Blvd. when a car coming out of Willowdale Avenue hit him.
Officer Paxton was air lifted by Nassau County Police Department helicopter to North Shore Hospital for treatment.
According to Lieutenant Salerno of the PWPD, Officer Paxton is home recuperating. He has bruises and contusions and possibly a concussion. The lieutenant does not believe he has any broken bones.
