Two School Board Members' Differences Heat Up
Familiar names appeared in this week's police report from the Port Washington Police Department. School Board President Richard Sussman and school board member John Zimmerman, who were at one time allies and now appear to be fierce enemies, have allegedly become physical with each other.
A Look Back at the First Gambol
On a warm June evening in 1952, 340 elegantly clad young people and their guests attended Port Washington's first-ever Gambol, a locally-held and community-developed gala celebration. And when the most recent group of newly-minted Schreiber High School graduates attend their Gambol on June 22, 2001, it will mark a momentous occasion, not just for the graduates, but for this community. Gambol 2001 will be the 50th anniversary of this Port Washington tradition, a gala thrown by the town for its graduates, which has been done every year for the past 50 years.
On The Bay
The Manhasset High School Varsity Sailing team took first place in the Mid Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association (MASSA) regatta held last Saturday, May 12 at the Setauket Yacht Club in Port Jefferson. In this debut regatta of the season, the Manhasset team sailed in against four other high school teams from the area.
NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team Awards
This winter teams qualified for the Scholar Athlete Team Award, which is given to any Varsity team that achieves above a 90 average. The Pupil Benefits Plan, Inc sponsors it, under the direction of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The purpose of the program is to recognize those programs, which encourage high performance both on and off the field.
