The Port Warriors (Boys - U11) are off to a strong 2-1-0 start, after a 7-3 victory this past weekend. An all-around team effort, on both sides of the ball, and an amazing performance by Ignacio Del Valle, who scored 4 goals, resulted in the win. The Port Shock Wave is also off to a fast start, now 4-0-0 after defeating the Plainedge Lightning by a score of 2-1. Alex Lee scored both Shock Wave goals. Going into this weekend there were five other undefeated Port teams, the Blue Storm (Boys - U13), Blazers (Girls - U12), Stingrays (Girls - U13), Wildcats (Boys -U13), and Lightning (Boys - U10).
The Sharks (Boys - U16) powered their way to the Waldbaum's Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Massapequa. It was an excellent team effort led by Peyton Mait in the middle and a great defensive job from Alex Vinberg, Jarryd Levine, David Katz, Virgilio Meo and Angelo DiMaggio. Jon-Paul Paolino kept Massapequa off-balance and drew two and three player coverage. Alex Vinberg connected on a long hooking shot and then Adam Myers scored the game winner off an assist from Kyle Becker.
The Port Vipers played two games this past weekend. On Saturday they took on the undefeated Oyster Bay Cyclones. With a super level of effort from every member of the team, the Vipers earned a 3-3 tie. Victor Martinez had an excellent game at middie, the forwards, especially Sam Glickman, Rich Imperatore and Brent Gillespie, put continuous pressure on the Cyclones, and the defense, exemplified by super efforts from Will Rizzo and James Hall shut down the Cyclones in the second half.
The Vipers lost their third round Waldbaum's Cup game on Sunday by a 2-1 score. Erik Schroeder and Matt O'Dell had very strong games at fullback and Ian Schwartz gave an excellent effort at center forward. A furious attack in the final 10 minutes fell inches short of tying the game when one shot on goal hit the post and another was smothered just in front of the goal. This was the furthest success in the Waldbaum's Cup tournament for the Vipers in three tries.
