On Wednesday, Feb. 21, I read a Village of Manorhaven "Notice of Public Hearing" identifying a Public Meeting on Feb. 28. The notice stated that pertinent copies of the law may be obtained in the village office. When I inquired at the village hall, I spoke to a clerk and Trustee Spielman, both of whom were very cordial. However, neither one could provide me with a copy of the law in question. Mr. Spielman had expressed to me that by holding off posting Public Notices until copies of proposed laws are available to the public, would delay board decision-making.
I feel as a new resident of the village, that copies of proposed law should be available at the time Public Notices are posted. This Public Notice was dated Feb. 20, 2001 but posted on the afternoon of Feb. 21. This is the second time I have inquired about a proposed law and it was not available at the time of posting.
I feel the village should anticipate and encourage village residents' participation and their knowledge of any pertinent laws. Informed and knowledgeable residents make for a better village.
