In what looks like a playoff bound team the St. Peter's 8th Grade Girls Basketball team has started the season off with 6 wins and 2 losses. If this team continues to progress they will make the playoffs that will begin in mid-January. The team continues to work on many aspects of the game that is improving both individual skills and overall team play. By learning these skills, many of these players will be able to compete for their respective High School Basketball teams next year. Although their won/loss record is good, both losses to a strong Our Lady of Victory team from Floral Park were a disappointment. In both games, St. Peter's had the lead going into the final quarter and could not hold on for the victory. The team turned the ball over way too many times to expect to win in each of the games. Much was learned from these games and the team very well could see Our Lady of Victory again in the playoffs. Two weekends ago against St. Boniface of Sea Cliff, the entire team contributed to the 36-24 victory. This was the first game that every player on the team scored. The players on the team are Nicole Cavallaro, Halsey Diakow, Leah Duranti, Kathleen Madigan, Katie McManus, Erica Moore, Laura Plominski, Jackie Stricker and Kelly Stross. The team has 3 games in the next week that will decide if they qualify for the playoffs. Hard work at practice, execution during the games and teamwork will add to an already successful season.
