    Discovering Sands Point: Its History, Its People, Its Places by Joan G. Ken, has just been published by the Inc. village of Sands Point. Says Mayor Leonard Wurzel, "Though only 4.2 square miles in area, Sands Point has had a colorful and varied history. It has evolved from Indian hunting grounds to a prosperous farm community through the great estate era to the affluent family-centered residential community of today.   • NEWS: Port Washington Children's Center Auction

    The Port Washington Children's Center's Twenty-Third Anniversary Auction was over the top this year. The monies generated by the generous donations that were auctioned off to the even-more generous guests at the event go directly to the center to help provide scholarships to qualifying families.   • SPORTS: On the Bay

    In mid-October of this year, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) loaned Growler to MBYC for use as one of the Race Committee boats for their fall series. Commander Eric Wallischeck, the sailing master and director of Waterfront Activities at the academy, was on board one of the weekends, and your reporter had a chance to chat with him. This most remarkable sailor has contributed enormously to the sport of sailing, not only at the academy, but also all along Long Island Sound. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: St. Peter's 8th Grade Girls CYO Basketball Team Off to a Strong Start

    In what looks like a playoff bound team the St. Peter's 8th Grade Girls Basketball team has started the season off with 6 wins and 2 losses. If this team continues to progress they will make the playoffs that will begin in mid-January. The team continues to work on many aspects of the game that is improving both individual skills and overall team play. By learning these skills, many of these players will be able to compete for their respective High School Basketball teams next year. Although their won/loss record is good, both losses to a strong Our Lady of Victory team from Floral Park were a disappointment. FULL STORY
