Two Candidates Seek Office of Police Commissioner
Just two dozen or so members of the public turned out to meet the candidates running for the office of PW Police District Commissioner on Wednesday evening, Nov. 29, at a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters. The present Commissioner Robert W. Persons, is seeking another three-year term; his challenger is Barry Loeb. Both answered audience questions that were philosophical, practical, and fiscal in nature. Voters will have to make up their minds by Tuesday, Dec. 12, the day of the election; votes must be cast at the Polish American Hall from noon to 9:00 p.m. The winner will join the two other commissioners for this police district, James Duncan and Sal Zimbardi.

School District Unveils New Student Equity Program
What began as several issues in need of examination, according to the Office of Civil Rights, has evolved into a sweeping district-wide program to foster equity and success of all students of the PW School District, regardless of race, ethnicity, and family income. After months of study by the superintendent, administrators, school board members, and a national consultant, the exciting initiative to have all children successfully meet higher expectations was unveiled at the Nov. 14 board of education meeting.

On Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 29, in the beautiful, tradition-filled model room of the NYYC, filled to capacity with world-renowned sailing dignitaries, George M. Isdale ("Dooie"), commodore of the NYYC, announced partnership with Dennis Conner, the NYYC and the ebusiness software giant, Computer Associates, from Islandia, to bring the America's Cup home to the United States.
