Sophie Wilford, 86, of Port Washington and Glen Cove died on October 8, 2000. Wife of the late Olaf, father of Marion S. Quinn and her husband John E., Margaret Wilford-Tyson and her husband Richard, sister of Charles Shibuk, grandmother of Andrea M., Arthur G., his wife Colleen. Prayer service and burial followed at Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove.
Dr. John R. White, 92, of St. Petersburg, FL, died on Oct. 19, 2000. He came from Port Washington and received his bachelor of science and civil engineering degrees from City College of NY. He received his master's and doctoral degrees from NYU and was a professor emeritus of the School of Engineering and Architecture of City College and City University. He was a member of the American Society for Engineering Education, American Society for Engineering Education, American Society of Materials Testing and the American Association of University Professors. He was a materials-testing consultant for government industrial organizations. He was listed in Who's Who in Engineering Education and was elected to three honor societies: Phi Delta Kappa (education), Tau Beta Pi (engineering) and Chi Epsilon (civil engineering). He was inducted into the City College Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Judith Rutledge; grandson, Stephen Dantzscher; granddaughter, Carol South; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Blount, Curry & Woodlawn Chapel, St. Petersburg.
Charlotte Osgood (nee Thorp), of Manhasset, died on Oct. 23, 200, at Community Hospital, Thomasville, NC, following complications of a stroke. Widow of Roger H. Mother of Roger S. and Peter. Grandmother of Michael, Karin and Daniel. Great-grandmother of Anna Marie and Gregory. Arrangements were made by Fairchild Sons Funeral Home, Manhasset. Graveside service at Christ Church. The family appreciates the loving concern of her dear friends.
