Long Island winners of the Big Babe Golf Championships will be packing their bags and getting ready to swing for a cure at the American Cancer Society's National Golf event, the largest amateur golf championship of its kind. Heading to the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami on Oct. 27 and 28 will be three women's and three men's teams from Long Island, including: Engineers Country Club, Long Island National Golf Club and Lido Golf Club.
Enthusiastic Long Islanders, who participated in local Babe Zaharias sporting events throughout the year, were proud to learn that an astronomical amount - over $1 million - was raised in the year 2000 alone.
Two major Big Babe sponsors, who have helped the American Cancer Society with this event over the last several years, are Chase Manhattan Bank and Jaguar Cars, Inc.. The proceeds raised from all golf tournaments will support American Cancer Society breast and prostate cancer programs in research, education, advocacy and patient and family services.
The American Cancer Society wishes good luck to its Long Island Champions!
