Matthew J. Slavinsky, 78, of Port Washington, died on Sept. 19, 2000. He was a WWII combat veteran in the Pacific, Philippines and New Guinea. Husband of Audrey. Father of Raymond and William. Grandfather of David. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Religious service. Interment private. Ellen (aka Helen) McPhelim, a long time resident of Port Washington, died on Sept. 20, 2000 at the Mill Pond Manor Adult Home. Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland, she came to the US in 1951 after several years in England. She was predeceased in 1999 by her long time friend and companion Charles Stewart. She leaves her nieces and nephews throughout the US, Ireland and England. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Funeral Mass at St. Peter of Alacantara Church. Burial Cemetery of the Ascension, Monsey, NY. Donations to Hospice Care Network, 900 Ellison Ave., Westbury, NY 11590. Florence A. DelSolo, 75, of Port Washington, died on Sept. 20, 2000, surrounded by her loving family. Sister of Antoinette Vascellaro. Also survived by four nieces and their husbands, 11 great nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. A Mass was celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara Church. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Donations can be made to Hospice Care Network, 900 Ellison Ave., Westbury, NY 11590. Frances Binkiewicz, 76, of Port Washington, died on Sept. 20, 2000. She is survived by her husband Stanley; her children Gary, and Dion Geneovese; her brother Tony; her sisters Tessie, Stella and Helen Kleskowski; her grandchildren Jessica and Gary Binkiewicz; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass at St. Peter of Alcantara Chruch. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery. George Eriksen, 98, of Port Washington, died on Sept. 22, 2000. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #136. Husband of the late Margaret. He is survived by his son Ralph; daughter-in-law Vivian Conde Eriksen; and his grandchildren Steven, Ralph Jr. Nancy Eriksen and David Schwimmer. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Religious service. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
