School Board Divided on Holding Community Forums
With the doors of each PW school poised to open the following morning for the start of the 2000-2001 academic year, the board of education met on Tuesday, September 5th, with an ambitious agenda that was to include a work session on resolving the district's facilities problems. Lengthy discussions on other topics, though, forced the postponement of focusing on facilities options to a second meeting held later in the week.

Port Washington Schools Open With 4,424 Students
With a 2000-2001 enrollment of 4,424 students, the Port Washington School District is slightly above its enrollment projections of 4,397. (Last year the projection of 4,252 was 69 students lower than the enrollment of 4,321) This year, the middle school and high school projections were almost on the button. The elementary schools registered 26 more students than projected.

On the Bay
Spank Me, a 44-foot C & C owned and skippered by Bob Limaggio, is a fairly new boat to our area, but in the short time she has been in our bay, she has won some major sailing honors. In the Around Long Island race, Spank Me took all the top honors out of a fleet of 101 starters in the race. She was first in her division, and was the fastest boat in both time on distance and time on time results. PHRF boats are rated two different ways and Spank Me came in first in both ratings.

St. Peter's CYO will be once again participating in the CYO of Nassau and Suffolk Basketball League. This will mark the 43rd consecutive year for St. Peter.
