Janet Hendler, a 41-year resident of Sands Point, passed away on July 4, 2000, after a long life and a short illness. Born in Manhattan in 1909, she was married for 57 years to Maur, who died at the age of 90 in 1993. Survivors include sons Maury and Randy and his wife Judy and grandson Scott. Burial was at Nassau Knolls.

Byron E. "Tex" Fitzgerald, 80, of Port Washington, died on July 28, 2000. He was an active member of the Elks Club and the Republican Club. He was also very active at Our Lady of Fatima Church and in many community activities. Byron was the husband of the late Lucy M. Father of Mary Lynn Fitzgerald.
