Now that the new nine holes have been officially dedicated, it seems appropriate to voice praise for the untiring work of Dick Bernhard, who is the chair of the construction committee.
The Village of Sands Point is essentially a community run by volunteers. Every phase of the government process, all committees, and services are peopled by resident volunteers. They give freely of their time and varied points of view that are discussed, argued and then implemented. But getting the new course built, negotiating and reviewing bids from contractors, overseeing their work on site, required a level of intense dedication and professionalism that went far beyond the time commitment of most volunteers.
And, that is precisely what Dick Bernhard has done in his devotion to the community, the club and to his neighbors. He was on the grounds almost daily, met frequently with contractors, architects, designers, etc., etc., to assure a quality of work and a completion schedule that has us all smiling.
So, a very big round of applause to an unbelievably devoted "volunteer." Thanks and congratulations for a job superbly done.
