Sandy Hollow Associates Revises Plans for 41 Acres
Concerned citizens and Port North residents attended a special meeting on June 26 to hear revised plans from Sandy Hollow Associates of Great Neck for a senior housing development on the vacant 41 acres, a former sand mine owned by Dallas Realty. Currently zoned industrial, the property would require rezoning by the village during a public hearing before Sandy Hollow could begin building.
From the Town of North Hempstead
Supervisor May Newburger announced with regret today that the Village of Manorhaven has refused to comply with a final deadline for performance of a 1993 contract to purchase a piece of Town-owned waterfront land, bordering Sheets Creek opposite Manhasset Isle, known as Lot 7. The land sale was to have been part of a long-standing plan to acquire a continuous strip of waterfront property for a Village wildlife preserve along Sheets Creek. Closing on the contract of sale had been delayed for years by a lawsuit filed by Dejana Industries, but that lawsuit was recently concluded.
On the Bay
This was a weekend of contrasts. Saturday was rainy and cold for a mid-summer day, but Sunday, defying forecasters' predictions, was partly sunny with variable winds that made for a pleasant day for outdoor activity. Racing also provided a sharp contrast, this time between the "big boats" competing in the weekly Thirsty Thursday competition, and the model boats participating in the Mill Pond Model YC's annual Ned Wagner Regatta.
PAL Third/Fourth Grade Baseball
On Friday, June 11, the hot Jimmy's Shoes Diamondbacks played the Tindell Windows Yankees in the Second Place Championship Game at PAL field.
