Despite the dreary weather, the First Annual Port Washington Rotary Club Clambake, held in conjunction with Harborfest, provided almost 200 Port residents with a fun and food filled evening. The event, held at the Town Dock under the "big top," also was the occasion to honor Port resident and businessman Jimmy Kallenberg for his many outstanding contributions to the Port community. The Rotary Club presented its prestigious Civic Award for Outstanding Community Service to Jimmy.
The journal for the Harborfest Charity Journal noted the following about Jimmy.
"Jimmy, a Port Washington native, has been contributing to our community for years. He serves on the Chamber of Commerce and helped develop the HarborFest Run, the Chamber's Great Holiday Giveaway, and Pride in Port's Toddler Entertainment.
"He also serves on the board of the Chamber of Commerce, PYA, Teen Center and is a member of the PYA Fundraising Committee. Pride in Port and HarborFest committees. He is the chairperson of the Merchant's committee and serves as Commissioner of the Port Washington Garbage District.
"Jimmy sponsored many teams for the children in PYA programs and last year he organized a shoe drive for victims of the hurricane in Honduras. Jimmy is one of those individuals who is always willing to give for a good cause. He is an important part of the community and helps make Port Washington what it is today. Jimmy knows that you have to give to receive, and he has been giving for many years. Now we are saying "thanks" for his outstanding service to the community."
The proceeds of the fund-raiser were presented to the PYA of Port Washington for the development of Lions Field.
