The 37th Town Dock Flounder Derby on May 6 was a fine day - bright sun, sportfishing by 101 kids under 16 with lines in the water, equal turnout by families, some ones in strollers who may be fishing next year, plenty of bait, plenty of hot dogs (500) ...just one thing missing, flounders. The catch was O. Persistent angling from 9 a.m. to noon produced one catch, a small bass which was quickly released.
Members of the Manhasset Bay Sportsmen's Club, sponsor of this annual contest, can only point out that sportfishing means trying your skills and luck and not always catching. They applaud the sportsmanlike spirit the young boys and girls show. They are also pleased to see more and more family members turning out to cheer on the anglers and enjoy a morning on our great town dock.
The club committee thanks all members who came out to supervise, serve out bait, and dish up the hot dogs. An annual vote of thanks goes to Trunz Food Center for donating the dogs. Also to R&G Bait and Tackle, Port Washington, for prizes (raffled), and to Duffy's Bait & Tackle, Glenwood Landing, for again supplying the bait.
