    Manhasset Bay and members of her surrounding communities lost a dear friend on Tuesday, April 25, when Louise Haney died at the age of 87, after a year and a half battle with cancer. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Five Vie for Three School Board Seats

    Five community members have announced their candidacy for the three school board seats available this year on the seven member board. Incumbents Dr. Roy Nelson, Sandy Ehrlich and Nancy Cowles will be seeking re-election, each for a second term. Julie Meyer and Robert Ferro are also running. Originally a sixth candidate, Mitch Bershader, had filed a nominating petition. But, he withdrew from the race because he feels he does not have the time necessary to devote to the job at this point in time. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Schreiber High School Annual Leukemia Fund Raiser

    The Schreiber High School branch of the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Society has set the date for its annual Schreiber vs. Weber charity basketball game. It will take place on May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Schreiber gym. All proceeds will be donated to find a cure for leukemia. If so far this sounds like just another boring charity event, read on. The two teams and their cheerleaders consist of Schreiber and Weber esteemed faculty. This means that if you come, you get to watch your teachers (or your kid's teachers or even your brother's and sister's teachers, as the case may be,) run around for two hours in organized chaos.   • SPORTS: On The Bay

    Each year at the end of the Frostbite YC racing season, the race committee sets one long course instead of the usual Olympic triangle offering sailors many short races in one day. Called the "Long Distance Race," sailors are given one long course that takes about one hour to 1.5 hours to complete. In the past, skippers and crew were sent out to the tip of Sands Point, but in recent years the RC has kept the boats in Manhasset Bay. Held on Saturdays to accommodate an early start, the committee times the race to finish by lunch so sailors, crew, RC, family and friends can gather together for an outdoor barbecue. FULL STORY
