On a crisp, sunny, but very cold, wintry Saturday afternoon, four newcomers to our area were treated to a spectacular view of our peninsula. The drive around Sands Point offered beautiful vistas of the water, New York skyline and bridges. What an introduction to our area! The broad water view from the tip of Sands Point was especially appreciated.

Five IC dinghies completed five races on Sunday, January 16. Top skippers and crew: 1. Pedro Lorson/Mimi Berry (#536), 2. Steve Moore/Monique Gaylor (#510). There was no crew race. Wind was between 10-12 knots for most of the day. Kudos to the Race Committee who called off racing just before the arctic cold front came through bringing winds up to 25 knots.

For those of you who followed the semifinals of the Louis Vuitton Cup, AmericaOne and Prada have advanced to the finals, starting on January 25th. This series promises to be a spectacular competition, as shown in the head to head contest in the 8th race on January 11. AmericaOne led most of the race, but at the last leeward mark, Prada managed to get inside AmericaOne and round the mark slightly ahead. What ensued was a tacking duel between the two boats to the finish line. AmericaOne won by one boat length (22 seconds) which became the closed finish in the semifinals series. Local sailors among the crew on AmericaOne are Ralf Steitz and Joel Belsky.
