In December, the GAA (Girls Athletic Association) at Schreiber High School in Port Washington adopted a family through the Outreach Program at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Manorhaven. Club members baked cookies, brownies and cupcakes for a bake sale to raise money in order to purchase holiday gifts. These items and bottled water were sold by committee members during the two-day Lady Vikings Tip-Off Basketball Tournament on Dec. 10 and 11.
The many gifts were brought to Sister Kathy on Saturday morning, Dec. 18, by Mrs. Evelyn Garofalo, club advisor, with the assistance of club member Tina Prudente and her mother Angela. Through the generosity and unselfishness of these female athletes at Schreiber, a less fortunate young family enjoyed a happy holiday.
