Ann Schroeder, 85, of Port Washington, died on Dec. 7, 1999. Wife of the late Charles Schroeder. Mother of Jane Rosevelt of Lake Oswego, OR and Lois Weston of Port Washington. Grandmother of Kelly and Caroline Rosevelt, Jennifer, Keith and Matthew Weston. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. She had been a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima and a funeral Mass was celebrated there on Dec. 11. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Eleanor Theresa Rodgers, 88, lifelong resident of Port Washington before moving to Stamford, CT in 1998, died on Dec. 23, 1999. She was born on July 27, 1911 in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Martin Shields and Elizabeth Donahue. Wife of the late Charles S. Mother of Dorothy Rodgers of Port Washington, Virginia Rodgers Silbersack of Stamford, CT, and Maureen Rodgers of Stamford. She was predeceased by her daughter Joan Rodgers Ross. Grandmother of four. Lillian Irene Russell Miller was born on Nov. 29, 1921 in Port Washington. She was the fifth child of the late William and Temple Russell and sister of the late Jeremiah, Ella and Margaret Russell and Mabel Johnson. Schooled locally, she graduated from Port Washington High School in 1940. A classically trained pianist, she began her music studies at an early age with private teachers. During her senior year in high school, she was awarded a scholarship to the Juilliard School. She completed successfully an advanced piano, pre-college program in 1944 and earned a bachelor's degree from Hampton Institute in Virginia.
From 1947 to 1957 she worked in Manhattan at Gimbel's department store advancing to the assistant buyer level. During the 1960s and 1970s she worked in the Roslyn and Port Washington public schools.
In 1947, Lillian Russell married Lorenzo S. Miller Sr. Making their home in Port Washington where she was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, serving at various times as organist, church clerk, class leader and a pastor's aide group member. While in Port Washington, she was also an American Heart Association volunteer and a past member of a LI chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Upon retirement in 1980, the Millers moved to Oyster Bay. Widowed in 1986, Mrs. Miller remained in Oyster Bay devoting her time and energy to Hood AME Zion Church, which she joined in 1996, the Babcock-Doubleday Senior Center, an array of hobbies and interests and spending time with her loved ones and friends.
Lillian Miller departed this life on Dec. 9, 1999. She is survived by her son, L. Stephen Miller of NYC; sisters-in-law, Cassie L. Dennis, Severna Park, MD, Johnie M. Miller, E. Elmhurst, Nancy Russell, Cambridge, NY; niece Rhonda Faucett, E. Elmhurst; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
