  • NEWS: Jason Ham Wins Thorp Award

    On Dec. 1 at the Nassau County Football Coaches Banquet, held at the Cresthollow Country Club Port's senior running back, Jason Ham, became the 58th recipient of Newsday's Tom Thorp Award presented annually to the outstanding football player in Nassau County. He shares the honor with Roosevelt's senior running back Jerone Pettus. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: DeNiro on the Dock Creates Buzz

    The circus wasn't in town last week despite the dozens of trailers parked at the town dock. More than 100 "movie people," including dozens of "the beautiful" people dressed in black who animatedly talked on their cell phones, convened at Louie's. The stars of the film, Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, were all seen ... and Mr. DeNiro, who looked every bit the movie star we all know and love, signed several autographs for lucky fans!     In this year's Frostbiting there are several father-and-son teams. Andrea Watson interviewed young James Macedonio. What follows are some of the things he said: He is 10 years old. This is the first frostbiting season for both of them. During the summer, he sails an Optimist, likes to go fast and play tag in the boats. He is making a lot of sailing buddies. He also sails an "Ideal 18" with his father which he thinks is easier than the frostbite dinghy because it doesn't tip over easily. He likes to sail, but likes sailing in the summer better because it's not cold if he falls in. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Port Washington Shockwave Complete Successful Division 4 Soccer Season

    The Port Washington Shockwave U-11 boy's soccer team recently completed its fall season. The Shockwave posted a 4-3-2 record; a very successful showing for the team which this year moved into a much more competitive Division 4. The format for games also changed this year from eight to nine players per side which added a new dimension to the game. Last year the Shockwave finished with an undefeated record and won the Waldbaum Cup in Division 5. FULL STORY
