Schreiber High School held their annual fall award night this past Wednesday. Athletes from all sports were recognized, with notable achievements specifically cited. One such honor was bestowed to a senior soccer player, male and female, from the varsity teams. The Tyler Rauzon Memorial Scholarship winners were Rebekah Friedman and Jason Myers. Both are outstanding players who have forsaken other pursuits to further themselves on the soccer field. They knew Tyler and could appreciate his work ethic and affable demeanor. Ironically, Jason was one of Tyler's closest friends.
On Jan. 22, 1997, Tyler was tragically struck and killed by an automobile. A joyful and inspired young man, Tyler epitomized dedication, character and a love for soccer. This year recipients truly follow the path Tyler forged.
The award is presented every fall and donations would be welcome to perpetuate the honor and continue to provide the scholarship to each honoree. Donations can be mailed to The Port Washington Soccer Club, PO Box 2067, Port Washington, New York 11050.
