Port Well-Represented at NYC Marathon
As a cold wind whipped around them and enthusiastic crowds cheered them on, more than 23 runners from the Port Washington area, some first-time marathoners, others, returning athletes, ran the 26-mile New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 7. An annual event that draws athletes from all over the world and one that even non-runners anticipate eagerly, the course takes the runners through each of the five boroughs and over several bridges, including the Verrazano and the 59th Street Bridge. We caught up (eventually) with some of Port's finest, to offer our congratulations and register their impressions of this year's NYC Marathon.

Flower Hill Approves New Code
In a letter to village residents, the trustees of the Village of Flower Hill noted that the objective of their year-long recodification project was "to balance careful, planned growth with the desire to maintain the historical and traditional settings which gave birth to our charming village." This past week, after many months of review and process, the trustees voted to adopt the result of their efforts, a comprehensive revamping of the village's code.

Tyler Rauzon Memorial Scholarship
Schreiber High School held their annual fall award night this past Wednesday. Athletes from all sports were recognized, with notable achievements specifically cited. One such honor was bestowed to a senior soccer player, male and female, from the varsity teams. The Tyler Rauzon Memorial Scholarship winners were Rebekah Friedman and Jason Myers. Both are outstanding players who have forsaken other pursuits to further themselves on the soccer field. They knew Tyler and could appreciate his work ethic and affable demeanor. Ironically, Jason was one of Tyler's closest friends.
