  • NEWS: Incumbent Johnson and Challenger Zenobio Vie for Legislative Spot

    The County's deficit is on the minds of all Nassau residents. What measures do you support to reduce the deficit? What would you oppose? What is your position on tax increases? BJ: To reduce the fiscal crisis, I propose we look at County waste and political patronage. I did a study of the last three years, and in that time, the County spent $6 million on outside law firms. When I questioned the County attorney, he said it was because of conflict of interest cases. I went back and counted up...(and found) three, maybe four a year, sometimes none. The reason for this ($6 million expenditure on outside lawyers) is they give these firms a certain amount of business, and the firms are going to make contributions. I never hold fund raisers; this policy keeps me fiercely independent...I told the County attorney, this has to stop, and it must stop now. FULL STORY

    The 11th Annual Pride in Port celebration hit a lot of homers again as this traditional community event provided attractions for the many people who love Port Washington. Young and old alike partook of the many fun-filled and, at times, emotionally stirring events scheduled for this special day. FULL STORY

    Last week's impressive 41-13 win over Bellmore/JFK kept the Vikings hopes alive to make the playoffs. Jason Ham ran for 197 yards on 17 carries (2 touchdowns) and Frank Zaccherio added 104 yards on 11 carries (2 TD's). On defense Zaccherio had 14 tackles and an interception. Spencer Bodner completed two of six passes, ran for 52 yards and scored once. Tight end Ricky Brown scored on a 13 yard pass reception from Bodner.
