Library Receives Construction Go-Ahead
The library has received the approval of the New York State Department of Education to proceed with its plans for expansion and renovation. The library filed its plans with the state last March, but was unable to begin the project until the go-ahead was received.

Committee Renames Main Street George Bergman Blvd. for PIP Week
On Tuesday nights he holds court at Finn MacCool's restaurant, but for Pride in Port week all of Port becomes George Bergman's kingdom as Main Street is renamed George Bergman Blvd. in his honor. Mr. Bergman will lead the Pride in Port Parade as he's also been selected to be this year's grand marshal. Just a few weeks shy of his 102nd birthday, "Uncle George," as he is known about town, was an easy choice for the Pride in Port Committee. "George is a longtime resident of Port, and as such, we felt it would be a wonderful time to honor him," said Barbara Faticone, one of the PIP co-chairs.

Schreiber Sport Teams Have Mixed Results
The boys started their week with an away game on Oct. 13 against rival Syosset. There has always been an intense rivalry between Port and Syosset, and it only intensified when Syosset narrowly defeated Port in last season's county final. I this game, however, things would go in the Vikings favor. Port started the scoring in the first five minutes of the game when Nat Francis scored off a pass from Jason Myers. cond shutout against Syosset, their second straight win and a 9-0-1 record.
