Long-Range Facility Plan for High School Reaching Final Stages of Development
At its Sept. 21 meeting, the BOE held a discussion on the high school master plan component of the facilities plan. The master plan, including a narrative and conceptual drawings, was recently submitted to the district by the educational facilities planning firm of Franklin Hill & Associates. Before the plan is finalized, however, further refinement is needed. The discussion at the meeting focused primarily on the recommendations to date, the driving forces behind the facilities needs and the identification of program issues, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Al Inserra.

Swat Those Mosquitos!
Dead crows started showing up in Port in August. In a recent call to Port News by Gordon Reynolds, a long-time resident and avid birder, Mr. Reynolds reported that the crows and red-winged black birds have all but disappeared from Port. Over this past weekend, Nassau County was in the midst of testing other dead crows for signs of encephalitis. Mr. Reynolds also noted that at Fort Totten (near "encephalitis central"), the guards have observed many dead crows.

From The Blinker of NSYC: Rick Dominique won the gold in the Empire State Games for Lasers in Sayville, repeating his 1995 victory. He was first in the Area B O'Day event at Westport, CT and was fourth in the O'Day trophy race at Bayshore.

Saturday September 25, 1999---With an impressive win against Southside the week before Port looked to extend their winning streak against Carey. Port's preseason ranking of sixth placed them as underdogs against the second ranked Carey, but Port believed that the game was going to be theirs from the start.
