With a 1999-2000 enrollment of 4,321 students, the Port Washington School District is "well above its projections" of 4,252 for the school year, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Albert Inserra. He noted that the elementary school projections were almost on the button. However, the middle school's opening figure of 962 is 14 students above the projection of 948; and the high school's actual opening enrollment number of 1196 is well above the projection for this year of 1,150.

"We will now run the projections using this current information to determine the overall impact on the long-term plan," said Dr. Inserra. The unanticipated additional student enrollment is a significant development because it affects the last projections being made before the long-range facilities plan is finalized, he added.

Dr. Inserra also noted that he's very concerned about next year in the middle school. Weber Principal Matt Sanzone needed to "undedicate" more rooms than anticipated. PEP is not in one room and foreign language teachers are traveling more than anticipated. He says, "Assuming the projections hold, I believe that we are not going to be able to work this next year, without additional space, as in portables."

The numbers for the schools and grades breakout as follows:
