Port Schools Open With 4,318 Students
With a 1999-2000 enrollment of 4,321 students, the Port Washington School District is "well above its projections" of 4,252 for the school year, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Albert Inserra. He noted that the elementary school projections were almost on the button. However, the middle school's opening figure of 962 is 14 students above the projection of 948; and the high school's actual opening enrollment number of 1196 is well above the projection for this year of 1,150.

Baxter Pond Dredging Could Start This Winter
It's been almost 20 years since Baxter Pond has been dredged -- and it shows. Silt and sediment have deposited throughout the pond forming little islands clogged with branches and other debris. The wooden bulkheads are crumbling into the murky water; the walkways and benches are in need of repair.
