  • NEWS: Board of Education Determines Ideal Class Size and Features for Facilities -- Part 1

    Trying to balance quality, lasting educational facilities with cost-containment, the Board of Education (BOE) discussed and identified ideal class size and many of the components of a model elementary school in their meeting on the 24th. The Board decided that 20 students per classroom was acceptable for planning purposes. The board also agreed on specific changes to the model elementary school plan which was developed by education facilities planner Dr. Franklin Hill and the district's architect. After weeks of discussion, site visits, and reviewing the research findings, the BOE chose to increase general classroom size to 900 square feet.   • SPORTS: Elks Soccer Shoot Out

    Great Neck/Port Washington Lodge's competition for the 1st Annual Elks Soccer Shoot Out, in cooperation with the Port Washington Police Department and the PYA, will be held at Lion's Field (Glen Lane and Sandy Hollow Road) on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. This national soccer-shooting contest is for youngsters ages 8 through 13.
