Manhasset Day Yacht Club's 67th Annual Race Week Regatta was held August 12-15. Awards were presented by Commodore Bill Brakman, Race Committee Chairman Peter Lorson and Bay Racing Chairman Gene Bowler.

The weather certainly had not been attractive over the four days but wind conditions were satisfactory. There were 13 classes. Here are the top skippers in the larger ones.

Optimist (12) 1-Tommy Matesich, 2-Read Vaughan, 3-Elizabeth Whipple.

Sonar (12) 1-Greg/Beth Danilek, 2-Bob Kirtland, 3-Mike McAllister.

MBO (9) 1-Robert Adams, 2-Don Richardson/Tom Godfrey, 3-Claude Mapes/Bob Dahl.

Blue Jay (7) 1-Candace Whipple/Matt Himler, 2-Lauren Taylor.

Ideal 18 (7) 1-Chip/Lynne Whipple, 2-John Browning.

Laser (5) 1-Doug Norea, 2-Colin Carrihill.

Laser Radial (5) 1-Kelly Barry, 2-Jason Hill.

Sunfish (5) 1-Dick Heinl, 2-Joe Sullivan.

S. Boat (6) 1-Rick Beck, 2-James Park.

KOD (4) 1-Emmanuel Greene.

PHRF (6) 1-Y. Zarhan, 2-Fred Meyer.

Juniors sailing Lasers away from home-Shelter Island YC-Jason Hill 6th and Doug Morea 7th. Both won awards. Also participating were Scott Schnipper and Collin Fitzpatrick. Cold Spring Harbor YC-Jason Hill 2nd and Doug Morea 7th. This was described as a very competitive event that involved qualifying.

Sonor Atlantic Coast Championship: Bob Kirtland came in 4th.

Day Racing: 8/8 Sonars (4) - 1#356. KOD (2) 1#3.

Thirsty Thursday: 8/12-number of starters and top boats:

Div. III (6)-1 Serenity, 2 Sundance.

Div. II (7)-1 Happy Daze II, 2 Tootsie.

Div I (9)-1 Promise Kept, 2 Xcite, 3 Banshee.

The eight world class skippers who have consented to race in the 18th Annual Knickerbocker Cup are: Tony Rey of the U.S.A., Paula Lewin from Bermuda, Tomislav Basic of Croatia, Geir Dahl Andersen of Norway, David Dellenbaugh of Cedar Point Yacht Club, Connecticut, Andy Green from Great Britain, Phillipe Presti from France and Andy Horton of the U.S.A.

Eight J-105 sailboats will race in Manhasset Bay over August 27-28.
