BOE August Meeting Has Mixed Agenda
At its Aug. 10 meeting, the Port Washington School Board adopted the tax levy for the 1999 fiscal year. The amount of the budget approved by the voters in June is $70.9 million. The amount of revenue that must be raised by taxation, according to Assistant Superintendent of Business Larry Blake is $61.8 million. Applying this amount, it translates into a tax rate increase for residential class I real property of 3.2 percent, or $51.95 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Lawsuit Against Police District Is Dismissed
A lawsuit against the Port Washington Police district and two of its officers stemming from a 1996 incident has been dismissed by U.S. District Court.

Manhasset Bay Gold Cup Poker Run '99
A boating extravaganza for the young at heart will take place on Saturday, noon, Aug. 21, on Long Island Sound, the sixth annual running of the Manhasset Bay Gold Cup Poker Run '99. Headquartered at Lamotta's Manhasset Bay Marina, in Port Washington, the event will have 100 plus powerboaters transiting Long Island Sound, between Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Port Chester, New York, then back to Port Washington.
