  • NEWS: Controversy Over BOE's "Getting Along Better"

    In an attempt to create a better working environment at public Board of Education meetings, school board member Alan Baer introduced a resolution at the board's July 1 meeting that would require all board members to sit on the same side of the table during their meetings. The current seating arrangement has the board and administrators facing the audience with six board members seated on the left, then to their right is seated Dr. Inserra, Ann Israel, Shelly Karnilow, board member Richard Sussman, and Larry Blake.     In the June 24 column it was reported that on June 18 Certa Cito (Michael Yorke's Catalina 42) had left Bermuda for home. Arrival date in Manhasset Bay was reported as June 25. There were six aboard including the skipper: Maureen Yorke and son Richard who flew down to replace two crew who had returned home, one of the original crew who had stayed on for the return trip and two new ones.   • SPORTS: Local Student in Volleyball Nationals

    Schreiber High School junior Stuart Katz was named to the All-Tournament 18-and-under team at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships held in New Orleans July 7-10. Competing for the Long Island United team in the club division, Katz was selected from among athletes on 24 teams representing the continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Overall, more than 200 teams compete in the national championships in categories of 14, 16, 17 and 18 and under. FULL STORY
