School Board Adopts "Conceptual" Long-Range Facilities Plan
After almost two years of deliberation, the school board adopted a "conceptual" long-range facilities plan at its July 1 meeting. The new plan differs from the one put forth by the board last April, which provoked much controversy and public outcry. The plan adopted by the board uses all the buildings in the districts and avoids construction of new buildings. School Board President Dr. Roy Nelson commented that the plan is "responsive to the desires of the community."

Town Dock's Improvements to Begin in the Fall
With funds from New York State, the Town of North Hempstead (TONH), and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, plans to revitalize the Town Dock area were unveiled at a meeting of the Mitchell Farms Civic Association on June 30. The funding, totaling approximately $210,000 will be used to beautify and improve the area, with the actual construction beginning this fall, according to TONH Public Works official Gil Anderson.
