BOE Grapples with Facilities Options
Mindful of the multiple messages of the recent school budget vote and revote, the Board of Education met in a June 22 work session to hammer out school facilities options and recommendations in a cost-contained fashion and with an expressed desire for community input. Educational facility planner Dr. Franklin Hill's presentation of aspects of a prototypical elementary school, called " a work in progress" since alterations, large and small, can be made, was followed by a general consensus among board members that they had moved a step forward to suggest the following in answer to the district's needs:

Reflections on the Gambol
It is a daunting task we do. By June 25 we will transform the entire gymnasium, so that not one inch of gym, other than the floor, will be visible. The entire ceiling will be draped with hundreds of panels of fabric, pinned together and strung over wires that will be strung from window gratings 30 feet high; the walls will be covered with 4 foot by 8 foot flats of wood, painted, draped, and decorated around a chosen theme. Air conditioning vent work will be temporarily wired to the ceiling, for this one night only. The entire facade of the school will be changed, and the entry and lobby and hallway to the gym will all be transformed.

On The Bay
The Sandbagger Team Race was held at the Manhattan Yacht Club on Saturday, June 26, between Manhasset Bay Yacht Club and Larchmont Yacht Club. Skippered by Sue Miller and with Jonathan Seiner, Jim Lyman and Mark Holdreith on the jib and Ted Toombs on the main, the MBYC team won both races.

Thurcon Devil Rays Edge Port Beer & Soda Rangers in PYA Final
It was the speed of the Thurcon Devil Rays against the power of the Port Beer & Soda Rangers in a nailbiter of a championship game under the lights at Manorhaven Fieldand in the end, speed won.
